... flip and fold...

even the most basic origami figures prove that a simple folds can result in an intricate and captivating sculptural design...

expanding upon the concept behind this japanese art, designers francesca rogers and daniele gualeni design studio have created 'light form'- a beautiful modular lighting system consisting of wood panels that can be flipped back to expose energy-efficient electroluminescent lights...

the system can be easily affixed to any wall, creating a luminous mosaic that balances modern design with a grand nod to traditional japanese art...

a structure of warm and soft light enclosed within dual-toned wood, light form allows the user to create a desired lighting pattern by manipulating folding tiles embedded in each modular panel...

encased in rich dark european maple, each module either holds either a light made of electroluminescent film or a bare white surface that increases available light through reflection...

... healthy cooking...

creating the perfect cooking zone in today's modern kitchen not only involves choosing a suitable oven, cooker and hob, but it can also include specifying a state-of-the-art steam oven...

not only do this clever appliances make life easier when entertaining guests or cooking for a large family get-together, but this method of steaming food is particularly useful when you want to prepare healthy meals quickly, without any fuss...

steam ovens offer a healthier way to prepare food as no extra fat or oil needs to be added...
food is sealed quickly to keep important vitamins and minerals in so valuable nutrients aren't lost during the cooking process, this makes it the perfect low-fat solution for health-conscious foodies...

another advantage of steam-cooked dishes is that they retain their size and texture...
the steam process doesn't transfer food odours between dishes, so you can cook sweet and savoury meals in the oven at the same time...

steam ovens will also complement an open-plan kitchen, as there are fewer odours with steam cooking...

the latest appliances offer sleekly styled exteriors with brushed steel and black chrome versions as well as the ubiquitous stainless steel...

... the concept of concealing...

the latest world from italian designers, hideaway kitchens provide a whole section of storage that can be opened up and closed away when needed...

apart from the surprise factor, they also help create a sleek, minimal look that's ideally suited to multifunctional kitchens...

there is also an obvious benefit to being able to shut up shop when not working... that way, you can enjoy your meal or relax in the living space without facing constant reminders of tasks ahead...

these designs create a kitchen within a kitchen, one that conceals all the domestic practicalities and can be hidden away in an instant...

also, these design can be seen as the natural development of the old pantry, but they tend to more closely resemble walk-in wardrobes...
the giant doors, lots of fitted shelves and pull-out systems make these storage solutions fell much larger...

... eggstraordinary...

designed for last year's electrolux design lab competition by romanian designer vlad icobet, the egg concept is an all-in-one cooking and food preparation unit that opens up like a flower to reveal 3 separate wings that provide a surface to prepare food, a cooking surface and washing facility...

the egg also includes an interactive holographic projector that allows the user to find information online to create recipes or get cooking instructions...
when not in use, it can be easily stowed to save place...
it can be customized in any colour to compliment any kitchen decor...

well, to me this idea looks a bit like the sheer kitchen island... the only different is the extra features on the holographic projector...

this is the sheer kitchen island...

developed by caesarstone, motivo is a quartz surface with an embossed, textured look and feel...
ideal for use as kitchen backsplashes, wall paneling, vanity tops and custom-made furniture...

the new motivo technique creates a sand-blasted effect offering unlimited possibilities to create any desired pattern...
current samples include the crocodile in black and the lace in white...

i really like this new quartz surface... i'm not sure it will be suitable for kitchen worktop as the textured surface will be very hard to clean but it will be perfect as backsplashes and wall cladding...

... bring the rainbow back home...

you can make the stairs the most interesting element of your home by putting the colourful vinyl floor pieces...

over the time, i have seen and design a lot of bookshelves, but what i have found today is really impressive...
i found this beautiful example of organizing books by colours even though on a simple designed bookshelves...
this is a very good way of changing the whole aspect of a bookshelf with a little bit of creativity...

rainbow bright are ideal for giving a boring room a 'wow' factor...
i'm not sure to have these colours in the kitchen was a good idea anyway...

this is basically a big wall of small triangle panels, which can be rotated to get the colour of your choice...
each triangle carries white, black and rainbow shades...
